It seems that PS5 manufacturing could start as early as next week. According to a report by Digitimes, a famous Chinese based publication specializing in hardware. They report that manufacturing is set to begin by next week with supplies being fulfilled by August and beyond.
PS5 manufacturing is set to begin very soon!
According to an article by the publication, it seems that the hardware of the console will start getting supplied starting next week with proper production starting in June. Sony has stated that they would make 5 to 6 million units of the console by March 2021.
For comparison sake, Sony sold 7.5 Million PS4 units across 2 financial quarters. It seems that despite the way 2020 has been so far, Sony is completely optimistic on pushing the PS5 to as many consumers as possible.
For those unfamiliar, the SoC refers to System on Chip, this is the part of the console that houses the CPU + GPU and is the place the heatsink is placed upon. Once the SoC supply begins, its all about building the console from there.
The most important part of the article is its second paragraph:
A person familiar with the semiconductor supply chain revealed that starting next week, the back-end IC packaging and testing end of the high-customized PS5 main chip of AMD will begin to be delivered to downstream manufacturers. Monthly and August climbed all the way, and the third season will be the peak of delivery for packaging and testing companies, which also means that the PS5 console will come out this year.via Digitimes
By the end of the 3rd Quarter could imply the end of the quarter before the Holiday season. That is when Microsoft and Sony are planning on launching their next-generation consoles to the market.
While COVID-19 is still not showing any signs of slowing down, the virus has long been controlled in China and the number of cases and deaths has significantly declined. This means that factories and other places of work have been given the green light to resume working on mass production once more.
With the recent cancellation of Sony’s June 4th event, we are still in the dark about many aspects of the console. Important questions like the launch titles, look of the console, and especially the price are questions that are long lingering in the minds of consumers.
Many journalists speculate that the price of the Xbox Series X and the PS5 will be kept a secret until August. Whether or not either console giant break their silence on the impact their consoles will have on your wallet is completely their volition.
For now, until the events affecting the United States stabilize, many gaming companies are now delaying their events in support of the movement sparked by the unfortunate death of George Floyd.
For now, all we can do is wait and see how current events take their course and patiently wait for the next major development in both consoles.
